Basics of Drawing Class with Sonya Blesofsky, 1/18/12

For our very last Art Ready class as a group before students begin their mentorships, Smack Mellon teaching artist and Art Ready mentor Sonya Blesofsky taught students the basics of observational drawing. The class, held at 30 Washington next door to Smack Mellon, focused on such skills as mark-making and shading with pencil, contour drawing, creating a composition using a viewfinder, and generally learning to look at objects while drawing them. We set up small still lives of different types of everyday objects, and did various drawing exercises.

View a great collection of photos of this class, with descriptive captions by Exploring the Arts intern Dayalin, at our flickr page!
