Paper Space

March 14, 2012

Creating a space that was pleasing to the eye yet still functional was my overall goal. Throughout each model the task was to create an installation that one could sit, lay, or walk through. And within each model, I took a different approach. For my first model, I manipulated artistic straws to convey a multi-level seating area with a structure that would eventually wrap around – creating a space within itself. My second design consisted of various strips of paper that would be arranged into a cylindrical walking space. This also included a walkway for pedestrians, so they do not bother those lying along the curved walls. And finally, my final model was a wall that would manipulate the light to create abstract designs on the surface of the floor. I then used the blocked spaces to create a visual experience for those to look up at.
